Senior Moment

Last night I had what I would consider my first “senior” moment, but not in the absentminded sense.

I’ve been a reader all my life, and it has gone in cycles. There hasn’t always been time to read, despite it being one of the most consistently satisfying pleasures. Over the past month I began reading books regularly again, and these books were chosen as I’ve chosen many in the past; by grabbing whatever was nearby that looked interesting.

That has worked out fine; it opened up new horizons and exposed me to ideas, views and experiences I would never have contemplated otherwise. Along the way my bucket list of books-to-read has grown.

Eventually a tipping point is reached; the size of the wish list very likely outstrips the time remaining to read them. It’s getting time to choose books more consciously…and make time to enjoy them.

Recognizing the necessity of that is rather sobering.
